Terms of Service
Last updated: March 3, 2026
1. Service description
Ties is a personal contact relationship manager (CRM) that helps you maintain meaningful relationships. It consists of desktop applications for Linux, macOS, and Windows; mobile apps for Android and iOS; and an optional cloud sync service. The desktop and mobile apps are free and work entirely offline with no account required. The cloud sync service and additional features described below require a paid subscription.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account or use the cloud sync service. By creating an account you confirm that the information you provide is accurate and that you have the legal capacity to enter into these terms.
3. Accounts
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at support@ties.md if you believe your account has been compromised. We are not liable for losses caused by unauthorised use of your account.
4. Subscription tiers
| Tier | Price | What's included |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Desktop and mobile apps, local storage, self-managed sync (Syncthing, Dropbox, Git, etc.) |
| Sync | $5 / month | Everything in Free, plus automatic cloud sync, web account portal, 5 GB storage |
| Plus | $10 / month | Everything in Sync, plus calendar feed, hosted MCP server, OAuth integrations, 20 GB storage |
Features and prices may change. We will provide at least 30 days' notice before increasing prices for active subscribers.
5. Billing
Payments are processed by Polar, our merchant of record. By subscribing you agree to Polar's Terms of Service. Polar handles all payment processing, tax collection, and billing disputes. Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually in advance. Refunds are subject to Polar's refund policy.
6. Your content
You own your data. Vault files — contacts, journal entries, reminders, and attachments — belong to you. We claim no rights over your content. We access it only to the extent necessary to operate the sync service.
Your vault files are stored as plain Markdown on your device. They are portable by design: you can read, edit, copy, and move them using any text editor or file manager at any time, with or without Ties.
By uploading content to the cloud sync service you grant us a limited licence to store, transmit, and replicate your files solely for the purpose of providing the service to you. This licence ends when you delete the content or close your account.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law
- Upload content that infringes third-party intellectual property rights
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems or other users' data
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the application software (except where permitted by law)
- Use automated tools to abuse the service, circumvent rate limits, or overload our infrastructure
- Resell or sublicence access to the service without our written consent
8. Intellectual property
The Ties application software, brand, and website are proprietary. All rights not explicitly granted are reserved. The vault file format (Markdown with YAML frontmatter) is open and unencumbered — you may implement it freely.
9. Service availability
We strive to keep the sync service available at all times but make no guarantees of uptime or performance. We may carry out scheduled maintenance and will endeavour to notify subscribers in advance. The free-tier desktop and mobile apps work entirely offline and are unaffected by server availability.
10. Termination
You may cancel your subscription at any time via your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You may delete your account at any time, which will immediately remove your cloud-stored data.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these terms. We will provide reasonable notice where possible. Termination of your account does not affect your locally stored vault files, which remain on your device.
If we discontinue the cloud sync service, we will provide at least 90 days' notice and offer a pro-rated refund for unused prepaid time.
11. Limitation of liability
The service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
In no event will Ties or its operators be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability to you for any claim arising under these terms will not exceed the amount you paid to us in the twelve months preceding the claim.
Because your vault files are stored locally on your device, we are not liable for any loss of data that results from accidental deletion, device failure, or other events outside our control.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the European Union and the laws of Greece, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of the service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Athens, Greece.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will notify account holders by email at least 14 days before the new terms take effect. Your continued use of the service after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
